High Physical Support SDA Home with Private Retreat Spaces

2 Participant Bedrooms | Private Ensuites | Individual Retreats | OOA Room Included

17 Frome Street, Port Augusta is a purpose-built SDA home designed under the High Physical Support design category. This single-storey home has been designed for two participants, with each participant provided with their own bedroom, private ensuite, robe, and adjoining retreat space.

The home offers a thoughtful balance of accessibility, privacy, and everyday comfort. The main living area brings together the family room, dining space, and kitchen in a connected central zone, creating a home that feels open, practical, and easy to move through. A dedicated Onsite Overnight Assistance (OOA) room is included, allowing support to be available overnight while still preserving participant independence and privacy.

The property has been designed with High Physical Support requirements built into the home from the beginning. It includes step-free access, generous internal circulation, accessible bathroom layouts, participant bedroom provisions for future ceiling hoists, slip-resistant flooring, communication system provisions, emergency power solutions, and support-friendly spaces that make daily living safer and more comfortable.

Everyday Living at the Centre

A Connected Space for Meals, Relaxing and Support

The family, dining, and kitchen areas sit at the centre of the home, creating a practical shared space for daily routines. The layout allows participants, support workers, and visitors to move comfortably between the main living areas without the home feeling crowded or clinical.

The family room provides a welcoming place to relax, spend time with others, or enjoy quiet everyday activities. The dining area connects directly with the kitchen, making meals and household routines feel natural and easy to manage.

The kitchen has been designed with accessibility and assistance in mind. It includes a height-adjustable bench, pull-out pantry, drawer-style dishwasher, wall oven, cooktop, and practical bench clearances. These features help make the kitchen more usable for participants while also supporting SIL providers with everyday meal preparation and household tasks.

Bedrooms Designed Around the Participant

Private Rooms with Space, Storage and Independence

The home includes two participant bedrooms, each designed as a private and comfortable personal space. Each bedroom includes a robe, its own ensuite, and an adjoining retreat area, giving each participant more than a bedroom alone. These connected retreat spaces provide room for quiet time, personal routines, visitors, hobbies, or a more private place to relax away from the shared living area.

Both participant bedrooms include provision for future ceiling hoist installation, with supporting structure capable of accommodating a 250kg load. This is an important feature for participants with higher physical support needs, helping the home remain suitable as support requirements change over time.

The separation between the two participant bedroom zones also supports privacy in a shared living arrangement. Each participant has their own bedroom, bathroom, and retreat area, while still being connected to the shared kitchen, dining, family, and outdoor spaces.

Ensuites That Support Dignity and Care

Accessible Bathroom Spaces with Privacy Built In

Each participant bedroom connects to its own private ensuite, supporting dignity, independence, and personal routine. The ensuites have been designed for High Physical Support use, with accessible layouts, step-free shower areas, slip-resistant flooring, lever-style fittings, and reinforced walls to support future installation of grabrails or other fixtures if needed.

The home also includes a separate bathroom near the laundry and garage area. This improves day-to-day functionality and helps keep participant ensuites private.

These bathroom spaces are designed to support both independent use and assisted personal care. The layout gives participants their own private bathroom while providing support workers with practical, safer working spaces.

A Kitchen Made for Participation

Accessible, Practical and Easy to Use Day to Day

The kitchen is designed to help participants stay connected to everyday household life. Its position beside the dining and family areas makes it easier to be involved in cooking, mealtimes, conversation, and shared routines.

The height-adjustable bench, pull-out pantry, drawer-style dishwasher, accessible bench depth, and lever-style fittings all contribute to a kitchen that is flexible and participant-friendly. These inclusions support different levels of independence while also making the space easier for support teams to work in.

The nearby laundry adds practical convenience for household routines. Its location keeps service functions close to the kitchen and bathroom areas while maintaining separation from the participant bedrooms.

Overnight Support with Respect for Privacy

OOA Accommodation Positioned for Practical Support

The home includes a dedicated Onsite Overnight Assistance (OOA) room, providing a suitable space for overnight support when required. This gives participants reassurance that support can be close by without making the home feel staff-led or institutional.

The OOA room is positioned away from the main participant bedroom and retreat zones, helping maintain a clear distinction between participant spaces and support space. This arrangement is beneficial for both participants and SIL providers, supporting safety, privacy, and efficient overnight support.

Outdoor Living Made Simple

Covered Alfresco Space for Fresh Air and Relaxed Use

The home includes a covered alfresco area that connects with the main family living space. This provides an easy outdoor area for relaxing, enjoying fresh air, spending time with visitors, or sharing a quiet meal outside.

The alfresco area has been planned with slip-resistant surfacing and step-free connection in mind, helping make movement between indoor and outdoor areas safer and more comfortable. The property also includes a front porch and landscaped garden areas, giving the home a welcoming residential feel from the street.

A 1000L rainwater tank is included as part of the property’s practical site design.

Built for High Physical Support Living

Safety, Accessibility and Flexibility Integrated Throughout

17 Frome Street has been designed to support the High Physical Support SDA design category while still feeling warm, residential, and comfortable. The home includes continuous step-free access from the boundary to the entry, wide accessways, level transitions, accessible door hardware, slip-resistant flooring, and circulation spaces that support easier movement throughout the home.

The participant bedrooms include future ceiling hoist capability, and the home includes emergency power solutions for key bedroom power points and automated entry or egress doors. High-speed internet capability with Wi-Fi coverage throughout the home is also included, along with communication system provisions so participants can contact supports when not in direct line of sight.

These features help support safety, independence, durability, and flexible support delivery. For SIL providers, the home offers a practical layout that supports daily care, overnight support, and safe movement through key participant areas. For participants, it offers privacy, personal space, and the opportunity to live in a home that feels comfortable rather than clinical.
