High Physical Support SDA | 2 Participant Home + OOA | Purpose-Built for Independence
A Purpose-Built High Physical Support SDA Home
3 Blakewater Crescent is a thoughtfully designed High Physical Support home, built to meet SDA requirements while still feeling warm, practical, and easy to live in. This single-storey residence has been carefully planned to support independence, safety, and everyday comfort for participants, while also making it functional for support providers.
This home is certified at Final As-Built stage under the High Physical Support design category and is designed for two participants, with a dedicated Overnight On-Call (OOA) room for support.
The Heart of the Home
Designed for Support, Built for Living
The layout creates a clear separation between participant spaces, shared living areas, and support zones. This allows for both independence and privacy, while ensuring support is always close when needed.
At the centre of the home is a spacious open-plan living and dining area that connects directly to the kitchen and outdoor alfresco. This space is designed to feel open and comfortable, with enough room for mobility equipment and easy movement throughout.
The kitchen is positioned to support everyday use, with clear circulation space, accessible bench areas, and practical placement of appliances. It connects naturally with the living area, allowing participants to stay engaged in daily activities.
A second flexible space, labelled as Bedroom 3 in the plans, is intended to be used as a shared living or activity area rather than a participant bedroom. This provides valuable additional space for relaxation, therapy, or quiet time.
Participant Bedrooms
Private, Spacious and Functional
The home includes two participant bedrooms, each designed with space, accessibility, and comfort in mind.
Both bedrooms provide generous proportions, built-in robes, and direct access to nearby accessible bathrooms. The layout allows for easy movement around the bed, supporting both independence and assisted care where required.
Importantly, each participant is provided with their own bedroom, ensuring privacy and dignity in a shared living environment.
The design also includes structural provision for ceiling hoists in participant bedrooms, supporting future assistive technology needs and ensuring long-term usability of the home.
Bathrooms and Accessibility
Safe, Reinforced and Easy to Use
Bathrooms are designed to meet SDA High Physical Support requirements, with step-free showers, accessible layouts, and reinforced walls for future grab rail installation.
Slip-resistant flooring is provided throughout wet areas, and layouts are designed to allow safe movement for both participants and support staff.
Overnight On-Call (OOA) Room
Support Without Compromising Independence
A dedicated carer or OOA room is located within the home, allowing overnight support to be available when required. The positioning ensures support staff are nearby, while still maintaining separation from participant areas to preserve privacy and independence.
The home also includes a separate bathroom for carers, supporting practical day-to-day operations.
Outdoor Area
Simple, Safe and Connected
The alfresco area is directly connected to the main living space, creating an easy transition between indoor and outdoor living. A ramped entry provides step-free access, ensuring outdoor areas are usable for all participants.
Outdoor spaces are designed to be low-maintenance and accessible, supporting safe and comfortable use without complexity.
Accessibility Features
High Physical Support, Built In From the Start
This home has been designed and constructed to meet SDA High Physical Support standards, meaning accessibility is integrated into the structure rather than added later.
Key features include step-free access throughout the home, wide doorways and hallways, consistent switch and power point heights, slip-resistant flooring, and reinforced structural elements.
Emergency power provisions are also included to support essential equipment during outages, along with strong internet connectivity to enable assistive technology and communication systems.
Fire safety considerations, including smoke alarms and an evacuation plan, are built into the design to support both participants and staff.
