High Physical Support SDA | 3 Participant Home + OOA | Private Ensuites and Full Accessibility
A Purpose-Built High Physical Support Home Designed for Independence
14 Youyangs Street is a thoughtfully designed High Physical Support SDA home, created to provide a safe, comfortable, and highly functional living environment for participants with complex support needs. This brand-new single-storey residence has been carefully planned to balance independence, privacy, and accessibility while ensuring support can be delivered efficiently when required.
The home accommodates two participants, each with their own dedicated bedroom and private ensuite, along with a separate Overnight On-Call room. Every element of the design has been considered to support ease of movement, assistive technology integration, and long-term durability, without compromising on comfort or the feeling of a real home.
The Heart of the Home
Open, Functional and Easy to Navigate
At the centre of the home is a spacious open-plan kitchen, living, and dining area that connects seamlessly to the rest of the house. The layout allows for clear movement pathways and generous circulation space, making it suitable for mobility aids and support staff without feeling crowded or restrictive.
The kitchen has been designed with accessibility in mind, including an adjustable benchtop, accessible appliances, and clear working space. This allows participants to be actively involved in everyday activities such as preparing meals and spending time in shared areas.
Natural flow between spaces, consistent placement of switches and power points, and step-free transitions throughout the home all contribute to an environment that is intuitive and easy to use.
Participant Bedrooms
Private, Accessible and Fully Equipped
Each participant bedroom has been designed to support both independence and high-level care needs. The rooms provide ample space for a queen-sized bed and circulation areas on multiple sides, allowing for equipment use and support access where required.
The bedrooms include private ensuites, designed with step-free showers, accessible layouts, and reinforced walls for future installation of grab rails. The design ensures that personal care can be delivered safely while maintaining dignity and privacy.
Ceiling hoist provisions are built into the structure of the home, allowing for future installation without major modifications.
Kitchen, Bathrooms and Daily Living
Practical Design that Supports Everyday Living
The kitchen is directly connected to the main living area, creating a shared space that is both practical and welcoming. Features such as an accessible cooktop, wall oven, pull-out pantry, and adjustable bench height support a wide range of participant needs.
Clearances around benches and appliances have been designed to accommodate mobility equipment, while maintaining a layout that feels natural and easy to use.
The living area provides enough space for relaxation, social interaction, and daily routines, with consideration given to lighting, airflow, and comfort.
Overnight On-Call (OOA) Room
Support Nearby When Needed
A dedicated OOA room is included within the home, ensuring that support staff can remain on site when required. The positioning of the room allows for quick access to participant areas while still maintaining separation and privacy.
This design supports 24/7 care models while allowing participants to retain a strong sense of independence in their own home.
Outdoor Area
Safe, Simple and Accessible
The home includes a private outdoor area that connects directly to the internal living spaces. Step-free access and slip-resistant surfaces make it easy to move between indoor and outdoor areas safely.
The outdoor space is designed to be low maintenance and functional, providing a place to relax, enjoy fresh air, or spend time with visitors without added complexity.
Accessibility Features
Built for Long-Term Support and Independence
This home has been constructed in line with High Physical Support SDA requirements, ensuring it is ready to accommodate complex needs both now and into the future.
